The house’s creation

We make the BusyKids interactive house from high-quality birch plywood. Apart from laser cutting, which only makes up about 2% of production, everything is handmade. We know that what we make is intended for those we all hold most dear – our children – which is why we go out of our way to care so much and enforce a number of product inspections.

  • First, the plywood is brought to the workshop. The painter checks for colour defects and cracks.

  • Next comes the laser cutting; cutting the parts for a single house takes approx. 1 hour and 20 minutes.

  • For the next half hour, every piece of the house is thoroughly sanded.

  • Then it’s time for another inspection by the painter to see if they’re ready to be taken from the sanding bay to the paint shop.

  • Next, they are varnished by hand. Every varnish that we use is water-based, making them safer for children.

  • All the pieces are then left to dry, before being quality checked again.

  • The multi-part components are put together, and it takes about another 30 minutes to assemble all the pieces on the six activity boards by hand. Not a single screw is used in the house’s construction; every component is riveted.

  • Before it’s packaged, the final inspection is made before sending it out into the world. Our houses have now made it to more than 40 different countries.
